Rail transport

The Donau-Iller region offers a high density railway network of main lines and branch lines. The node Ulm with its 6 lines is one of the most important railway stations in southern Germany.

The most important railway project for the region is the building of a new track between Stuttgart - Ulm - Augsburg. This project is a main part of the international TEN-Corridor between Paris and Budapest. Due to its relevance for a transeuropean railway network, it will be upgraded in next years.

Furthermore the main line between Munich and Zurich goes through Memmingen in the south or region Donau-Iller. The "Südbahn" Ulm-Friedrichshafen offers fast connections to the lake Constance.


High Speed network and Public Transport

The region Donau-Iller is integrated into the european high speed train network with the ICE-line Munich-Ulm-Stuttgart-Frankfurt_Berlin/Köln and the TGV-line Munich-Paris. Also in public transport the region benefits from good offers which provids interlinkages between the cities and regions in southern Germany.

In intermodal transport Regional Association Donau-Iller is engaged in a Opens internal link in current windoweuropean project. With a multinational cooperation they foster Alpine crossing railway transport. Therefore a concrete intermodal connection from Ulm to Lombardy Region is projected.

For wagonload transport there is a big shunting yard in Ulm as central railway node. Moreover there are numerous rail loading stations in the Donau-Iller region.
